Are You Afraid of the Dark, Goosebumps, The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Crypt? Parents and grandparents who allowed my sister and me to watch horror films since childhood? Horror has always been a part of me, and since we are now in October, it’s the best month, my fucking month!
I remember the first horror film I ever saw. I was little when I came home from trick-treats with my sister. I don’t know the costume (vampire?) But what I do remember was the movie. I remember being wrapped in a blanket on the living room floor, watching// Halloween with the family. I will never forget how Myers pins that guy to the wall with his knife and just stares at him. Nor will I ever forget his mask slowly coming into the frame from the dark room behind Jamie Lee Curtis. I fell in love with Halloween, and I wanted to see more.
I love the season of Halloween more than any holiday! From costume parties, horror movies, and just the season overall! The smell of dead leaves is in the air and relaxes me. I dig pumpkin-spiced stuff like coffee/cocoa, milkshakes, and candied apples. When you are an adult, Halloween is almost more fun than it was as a kid. It’s really just another excuse to drink, much like St. Paddy’s and the 4th of July. Only this time, you can do it in a costume, with Night of the Living Dead playing in the background.
My age means nothing come the Halloween season. I don’t do my 31 nights of horror…only because as of writing this I have already watched like 30 movies and the first Treehouse of Horror. Trying new things, sequels, classics. That’s how I am with any genre, I will watch anything….except I won’t give Tusk another fucking chance. TRASH!
I hate other horror films, too. Most of the pg. 13 ones are from the 2000s, and most of the remakes were produced by Michael Bay. Some people like The Texas Chainsaw remake, but I bet they like watching Jessica Biel running around in a wet t-shirt. (Who wouldn’t?) I guess Bay also produced The Purge franchise, and I like those.
I hoped this would be me just going down Halloween memories, but I started ranting again. (It’s just my nature) I’m not sure if me eating nearly an entire tray of Jello shots while dressed like a werewolf would be worth telling. Nor the boring reasons why I dressed like the wicked Witch of the West. That green paint took so fucking long to get off me! Maybe I should have slut it up a bit. Isn’t that what many girls do on Halloween with their costumes?
My best costume was probably the homemade Droog costume I made from A Clockwork Orange. It had eyelash and eyeball cuffs and everything. I was hot.
I’m not sure if all this random shit would be considered for the midnight society, but I do have a question…what if they didn’t approve it? What if the stories had sex-crazed teens, drinking, drugs, blood, gore, and foul language? I always wanted to be one of those kids sitting around and telling stories, but let’s face it, I would not be approved. I am never approved by The Daytime Society!
In case this is the last time I write for a while…Happy Halloween!
Eat. Drink. Be Scary.
Wait….It was actually The Legend of Sleepy Hollow that got me into horror!
